I used conditioner to detangle my toy's hair and here is how it went

I decided to try my hand at detangling the pink hair piece from my Magic Waterfall Pets set tonight and it was a SUCCESS! I've read up on it before and it sounded pretty simple. So here are my instructions on how to detangle doll hair!

Here's what I started with:

Tangled doll hair

Tools you need: conditioner, small container, and comb

All you need is three simple tools:

  1. Hair conditioner — I used my regular Native conditioner I use daily

  2. Small water container

  3. Comb with tight bristles

I've read that some people dilute the conditioner so that's what I did. First, I put the conditioner onto the hair piece. I added some conditioner into the container (I repurposed my Invisalign cleaning case) and added lukewarm water to dilute the conditioner on the hair piece.

Step 1: Condition hair

Next, you need to start combing gently from the bottom. Be slow and gentle because you can destroy the hair instead of fix it. It takes a bit of patience but it works! Take short, slow strokes combing downward and keep repeating until you don't feel a tug all the way through the bottom. Slowly work your way up as you detangled each section. If you feel hard tugs, go back lower and try again. Use more conditioner as needed as you'll be combing the conditioner away with each stroke.

Once you've combed all of the frizz/tangles away, gently and slowly rinse off the conditioner using a low stream of lukewarm water. I have read that some use "almost boiling" water to straighten as well but I've yet to try this. I recommend rinsing in sections so you don't end up tangling the piece all over again.

After rinsing, use a paper towel to pat dry in sections.

And VIOLA! That is how you straighten frizzy doll hair!

Detangled hair before and after

It took me about 5 minutes to detangle and another few minutes to dry. Note that this particular hair piece is synthetic hair and a very small piece. Other doll hair may have different materials so I would find out what type of material yours is. Each case can be more difficult depending on how long the hair is, as well as how severe the tangle is — but it's doable!
