Fail Haul

Today was full of fails. The day started out disappointing. I went to my orthodontist appointment to find out if I will need a new box of Invisalign after they had assessed my progress last month and it turns out that — not only do I need new trays — but they had added 58 more trays to my original treatment (which is 1 more than the last which took me a year and a half to get to — and I was only on the 45th tray). I cried on my way to my work office in my supposedly fixed car. Another fail btw, we had just picked it up from the dealership service center because of a lag problem, and $700 later, the problem persists.

What a day. Thank God for the complementary facial I got (I work for a medical spa) that definitely lifted me up. But wait, there's more!

Once I got home I saw that I had new packages to open! Yay! Or not...

The first package I opened was a NIB vintage Hungry Kitties with Eat-It-Up Food Dish. I was so excited to get a NIB set that I really like! Then I open the package and see that what I had originally thought was dirt (I get it, it's vintage, that's alright) on the packaging was actually on the inside : ( And not only on the inside, but it looked like mold that was growing on the actually toy itself (photo attached to show what I mean). Idk if it's really mold but it looks like it's actually altering the surface's texture. I was extremely disappointed. I paid almost half a hundred for it and it turns out to be damaged.

I saw that the seller doesn't accept returns so I tried my luck to at least inquire if the seller and I can work something out. With a very kind letter sharing my sentiments, the gracious seller decided to accept my return. I was so grateful for that. I quickly packed it up and dropped it off at my local post office right away. I'm currently working with the seller with the return as I've never sent back an item before. I paid for the return shipping myself and will just have to eat that cost 😔 I will say that in the 6 months that I've been collecting, I've been quite lucky to never had to return an item. I hope it will all work out but I'm confident that it will all be alright.

Next package: Swimming Ducklings and Pondside Nest

Yay! Brand new and in original package, right? NOPE

Does that look brand new to you? It certainly does not to me. Dust is one thing, dirt and scratches is a completely different thing. I was pretty upset. In the end, it's not worth returning all the way to Hong Kong since it's cleanable (the dirty trestle anyway). And the scratches on the duck? I'll just take a hit. I just can't believe this was sold as new when it looks like this. With the other toy, there's no way they can remove it from the box and put it back in like this one.

I wrote another kind, well-mannered message just letting them know that I was disappointed in the condition and just let them know that it was my feedback and that I'll keep it. I got a reply back with them apologizing and attempting to excuse the toy's condition and offered a partial refund. I didn't expect anything so I was glad and happily accepted it. They haven't provided a refund yet but I, again, am confident that it will work out.

I'll provide an update once this ordeal has wrapped up! Since both sellers excellent reviews, I'm confident that it's going to pan out well. This is one thing I've mentioned in my Amateur Vintage Collecting Tipsconsidering a buyer's ratings. Very important for instances like this.

I'll also leave you with an important tip in life: "If you don't ask, the answer is always no." BUT just keep in mind that you have to be kind. If you act very defensive, anyone will act just as defensive. Remember that we are all human and trying our best. Give grace to others and you will be amazed at how situations that seem impossible can turn around if you just treat people with respect.

Have a wonderful life 😘
